School on Wheels program brings education home in Immokalee and Naples

Hundreds of women from Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti and El Salvador are isolated in worker camps and trailer parks in rural Immokalee and East Naples and are functionally illiterate.

Since the women have no way to come to the Catholic Charities for English classes, we bring the education to them through the School on Wheels Program. Classes take place in the home with a one-on-one tutoring session.

While their husbands learn English at work and their children learn English in school, these women yearn to be on the same level. They recognize that the ability to communicate English is a gateway to success and real freedom in the United States.
