The Emerald Ball will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Saturday, March 20 at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. Proceeds from this black tie gala will benefit Catholic Charities of Collier County. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing to the Bob Gaffney Orchestra. Silent and live auctions also will be featured during the evening. The first annual James McTague Humanitarian Award will be presented at the event to Honorees Mary and Robert Carsello. Catholic Charities of Manatee County, a HUD-certified counseling agency, will hold a First Time Homebuyers Class at the agency’s office located at 1219 16th Street West in Bradenton. The class is free of charge and will be held Saturday, March 27, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn financial literacy such as how to avoid foreclosure, develop a budget, improve credit scores, and save money among other money management topics. Upon completion of the First Time Homebuyers Class, participants will receive a certificate that will make them eligible to apply for the Manatee County SHIP Program, which offers a loan for down payment and closing costs assistance. First Time Homebuyers also are eligible for the $8,000 tax credit from the United States government until April 2010. To take part in the class, please call 941-714-7829.
APRIL
The first annual Doctors for Charity will be held Saturday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Michael's On East in Sarasota. The proceeds from this dinner dance will benefit the HIV/AIDS Ministries of Catholic Charities. The event will feature music and dancing to The Noblemen Sahib Shriners of Sarasota 16-piece 1950s band. Tickets are $125. Dress is 1950s period or cocktail attire. HIV/AIDS Ministries of Catholic Charities strives to create hope and understanding for those infected by providing services with love, compassion, dignity, and respect to help clients live healthy, more satisfying and independent lives.
