Catholic Charities of Manatee County, a HUD-certified counseling agency, will hold a First Time Homebuyers Class at the agency’s office located at 1219 16th Street West in Bradenton. The class is free of charge and will be held Saturday, February 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn financial literacy such as how to avoid foreclosure, develop a budget, improve credit scores, and save money among other money management topics. Upon completion of the First Time Homebuyers Class, participants will receive a certificate that will make them eligible to apply for the Manatee County SHIP Program, which offers a loan for down payment and closing costs assistance. First Time Homebuyers also are eligible for the $8,000 tax credit from the United States government until April 2010. This class also will be offered in Spanish on March 27. Catholic Charities of DeSoto County will host the
Boots and Bandannas Dinner Dance on Saturday,
February 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mission Valley Country Club in
Venice to raise money to support their programs. The event is a lively,
western-themed party that will feature a social hour, dinner and dancing,
and a silent auction. Anyone interested in supporting Catholic Charities of
DeSoto County can attend by purchasing tickets and/or becoming a sponsor of

The Our Mother’s House Wine Tasting and Dinner Auction will be held Thursday, February 25 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice. This signature fundraising event for Our Mother's House will feature Chinese, Silent, and Live Auctions. Tickets are $75 per person. Our Mother's House is committed to helping homeless mothers and their preschool children attain self-sufficiency. All funds raised at the event will be used to ensure that the mothers and children receive the programming and services they need. The 11th Annual Venetian Charity Ball will be held Saturday, February 27 at the Harbourside Event Center in Fort Myers. Hosted by Bishop Frank J. Dewane, this event will benefit Catholic Charities of Lee County. Celebrating 25 years of service, Catholic Charities of Lee County served more than 5,000 people last year. The demand for help is even greater this year, especially with the food pantries where requests for assistance are up 50 percent. The gala will feature a cocktail hour, a small and elegant Chinese Auction, a Champagne and Diamond Raffle, a live auction, along with dinner and dancing to the Paul Vesco Orchestra. The Emerald Ball will celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Saturday, March 20 at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples. Proceeds from this black tie gala will benefit Catholic Charities of Collier County. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, dinner and dancing to the Bob Gaffney Orchestra. Silent and live auctions also will be featured during the evening. The first annual James McTague Humanitarian Award will be presented at the event to Honorees Mary and Robert Carsello.
