ranks in top 1 percent Venice—Catholic
Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc., which operates 31 programs throughout
10 counties in Southwest Florida, ranks in the top 1 percent of charities
nation wide for fiscal responsibility. Charity Navigator, the largest
independent evaluator of charities in the country, awarded the
organization the highest four-star rating for the sixth consecutive year,
earmarking the coveted distinction. “Only
1 percent of the charities we have rated received six consecutive
four-star evaluations,” said Trent Stamp, president of Charity
Navigator. The ranking indicates that Catholic Charities, Diocese of
Venice outperforms most charities in America in its management of
donations. Stamp said Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice demonstrated
“exceptional financial health.” Charity
Navigator evaluates
charities in two broad areas of financial health: their organizational
efficiency and their organization capacity. A set of financial ratios or
performance categories to rate each of these two areas are used and an
overall rating is issued that combines the charity’s performance in both
areas. “We
are truly excited to receive the award for six years,” said Peter
Routsis-Arroyo, president/CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice.
“This exceptional four-star rating demonstrates that our Catholic
Charities organization is worthy of donors’ trust.” Catholic
Charities USA, the flagship organization for the network of Catholic
Charities agencies across the nation, was ranked 8th in Charity
Navigator’s Top Ten List of Slam Dunk Charities, according to Stamp.
“At Charity Navigator we scrutinized the financial health of more than
5,300 of the best-known charities in America. Catholic Charities USA
stands out not just as one of the most fiscally healthy, but also for
their strong commitment to respecting the rights of donors,” Stamp said. Charity
Navigator is a nonprofit organization that helps donors make informed
decisions. By accepting no advertising or donations from the organizations
it evaluates, Charity Navigator ensures that its evaluations are unbiased.
The ratings are available for free at the organization’s web site. “I hope our donors will use the Charity Navigator web site to see for themselves how and why Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice again received this high rating,” Routsis-Arroyo said. “One visit will provide further assurance that we strive to make the maximum use of all funds we receive, whether they come from individuals, parishes, grants, foundations or businesses.” For more information about Charity Navigator visit www.charitynavigator.org.
