St. Martha's Early Learning Center
Volunteers help provide students with quality education
Sarasota--The
children are busy at St. Martha's Early Learning Center of Catholic
Charities! So much of their curriculum focuses on preparing
for the first days of kindergarten. Reading and language skills are
so important. Director Julie Zurgable and Assistant Director
Jer-rika Green are looking for a small but consistent group of
volunteers who would be willing to work hand in hand with the
teachers--particularly for reading time.
The Catholic Charities program prides itself on the ability to provide one-to-one attention when and where it is needed. Having a pool of daily volunteers to draw from would definitely help them further their goals for the young children. Using Creative Curriculum with the Discovering God Curriculum, the teachers work in learning centers within each classroom to help students progress at their own pace.
All volunteers go through an important orientation and the state required background screenings. Volunteers choose their schedules from a list of available options Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.
