Immigration/Citizenship Program

Three wishes granted brings new life for mother and daughter

Bradenton--Gloria Gonzalez, an emigrant from Cuba, worked here as a legal permanent resident and felt blessed for her many opportunities. However, Gloria had three important goals she was striving for…she called them her three wishes.

Gloria shared with Catholic Charities Immigration Caseworkers that she prayed daily to accomplish the following tasks:  (1) to become a United States Citizen; (2) to purchase a trailer to live in; and (3) to assist her daughter, her only living child, with immigration from Cuba to the United States. Her son tragically died in a car accident.

With assistance from the Catholic Charities Immigration program, Gloria took Citizenship Classes which helped her to pass her United States Citizenship Test and become a citizen. On her own, she worked hard to save money to purchase a trailer so that she now has stable housing. In the past year, again with the assistance of the Catholic Charities Immigration Program, Gloria was able to get her family reunification petition approved by the United States government. Now, after many years and much work, Gloria and her daughter are together again!

Catholic Charities is making a difference in the lives of people in our community, one family at a time.
