Knights of Columbus put on "Show of Shows" to fill Sugar Bowl
Venice--For
over a decade Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. and the five
Knights of Columbus Councils in Venice, Englewood, North Port, and Grove
City have partnered in a worthy cause called the Sugar Bowl Fund.
This program helps families that suffer an economic hardship because of
an emergency medical, housing or transportation expense. The premise of
the program is based on the idea of when generations past used to salt
away a little money from a weekly pay and used the sugar bowl as their
home-based bank for emergency cash. Needy families are given one-time
assistance to overcome their crisis.
Founded in the 1820s, the Knights of Columbus is a fraternal, family-oriented Catholic men’s service organization. It is the largest Catholic fraternal organization in the United States and maintains four principles which include charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The Knights of Columbus support many causes such as pro-life from inception until natural death, the physically and mentally handicapped, and the Catholic Church and its teachings. Being a family-oriented organization, they naturally support various charities that focus on family life.
The
Knights of Columbus have a tradition of providing both manpower hours
and financial assistance for Catholic Charities’ projects in our
community. They remain steadfast partners and have assisted throughout
the years with programs such as Our Mother’s House of Catholic Charities
and the Emergency Financial Assistance Program of Catholic Charities. Of
course, their most dedicated work with the Sugar Bowl Fund ensures that
families in need in our community will be assisted. Without the Knights
of Columbus, the Sugar Bowl Fund would not exist. Catholic Charities is
grateful for their continued and compassionate support.
The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Charities are proud to present the 2nd Annual Sugar Bowl Show of Shows on Saturday, November 14 at the Venice Community Center at 2 p.m. featuring Ken McBride and the Ditchfield Family Singers. The proceeds from the Sugar Bowl Show of Shows will go directly to families in our community that are experiencing financial difficulty. Ticket prices are $20. To purchase tickets, please call Ray Haller at 941-493-5899.
