Catholic Charities receives exceptional four-star rating

Venice--Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc., a non-profit social service organization with programs located throughout 10 counties in Southwest Florida, received the coveted four-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency from Charity Navigator, the largest independent evaluator of charities in the country.

According to Ken Berger, president and CEO of Charity Navigator, receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way. Berger said that Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice outperforms most other charities in America.

“We are truly excited to receive this award again,” said Peter Routsis-Arroyo, CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice, Inc. The agency has received the four-star rating nine times over the last decade. “This four-star rating demonstrates to our donors that we are good stewards of their financial support.”

The top rating is designated as “exceptional,” Berger said, and is available for free at the Charity Navigator web site at www.charitynavigator.org.

“Our donors have the opportunity to visit the web site and see the evaluation, which will provide further assurance that we strive to make the maximum use of all funds we receive,” Routsis-Arroyo said. “I hope donors will find that we are worthy of their trust.”

Berger said as the nonprofit sector continues to grow, donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support.

“Catholic Charities also realizes that it has to earn the top rating in each future year through implementing the best possible stewardship of contributions,” Routsis-Arroyo said.
