Bon Secours Fund awards grant to housing program

Port Charlotte—Marian Manor, a Catholic Charities Housing program, provides affordable, transitional rental housing to low- and very low-income individuals and families. Bon Secours Health Systems Community Grant Fund has awarded Marian Manor $20,000 for rental assistance to people in need.

The Bon Secours Community Grant Fund exists to provide financial support for nonprofit programs that serve marginalized and disenfranchised families served by the Peace River Regional Medical Center.

A major emphasis of the Marian Manor mission is housing for the homeless and advocacy for the residents of the program’s 31 apartments. Seven of the units are designated for young mothers with children or very low-income families or individuals. Twenty-four units are for workforce families whose income is at or 50% below the Area Medium Income (AMI).

The funds from this grant will be used exclusively for rental assistance to individuals and families who meet the financial criteria, according to Fr. Art Shute, Mission Consultant for the Bon Secours Health Systems, who presented the award check.

Marian Manor is located at 4200 Lister Street in Port Charlotte and is managed by SPM, Inc. This Catholic Charities Housing program works closely with the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition and other local agencies for referrals. The office phone number is (941) 391-5669.
